It All Began With A Single Ringgit

RM1.00 = Love has stretched itself further with 4 members from CSR team trotting down to Melaka on 1st Nov 2019, and invited participation of our fellow Melaka branch staff (Agnes, Tan, Koh and Ammy) to volunteer at Pusat Kanak-Kanak Terencat Akal Bahagia, Melaka. Driven by Puan Zalina, the team made a stop at a supermarket to purchase the daily needs (such as wall fans, blenders, diapers, detergent, cooking oil, Maggi instant noodles, Milo, etc) prior to arriving at the centre.

The care centre founded by Roy and Helen is currently home to 21 children and adults (who were brought in as children years ago) with most of them incapacitated either physically or mentally at birth or through mishaps. There are about 10 care-givers who cater to the occupants needs but the cost increased as the children transition into adults and whenever they have a newcomer. Therefore, they always welcome volunteers and donors to assist them in their quest in providing the occupants a conducive and comfortable living environment.

During the tour around the centre, the team were introduced to the occupants and briefed on their history. The team was heartened to hear that there are many Malaysians who are charitable in nature, as Helen shared that one kind donor regularly pays for the home’s electricity. It was a humbling and heart warming experience to say the least.

Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference. Roy and Helen, truly made a difference for the disabled community and we are glad to be part of their journey.
