Hope is living with courage and confidence – Sarawak Children’s Cancer Socirty (SCCS) by CSR Team & Kuching Team

By Annie Santhanasamy (CSR Committee) and Ms Shirley Su Suk Ming (Kuching Branch)

Cancer is a major disease worldwide. Prevention of cancer is one of the most significant public health challenges.

Cancer is an illness that not only creates complications for one person, but changes the lives of many over the course of the diagnosis, disease, and treatment.

Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) was founded by a group of parents with children suffering with cancer in 1999, in support of families with children diagnosed with cancer In Sarawak. Every 5 days, a child is diagnosed with cancer. SCCS is a fully public-funded NGO and all financial aid will be used in support of their services.

Their philosophy is “We are families helping families”. The SCCS committee, made up to 70 parents of cancer patients and 30 SCCS volunteers, also provide financial assistance in sponsoring essential medical consumables and equipment (not provided by government hospitals), as well as accommodation, food and transportation to outstation rural patients.

As part of our CSR initiatives, we have jointly with Ms Shirley Su Suk Ming – Kuching Branch, donated RM 5,000 to SCCS, in financial support.

On 6th May 2023, our Kuching Branch Team (Lai Jai Jen, Kevin Wui Liang Ching, Delwin Liu Zhan Xung and Tan Lip Weoi, led by Ms Shirley Su Suk Ming – Branch Head, volunteered to conduct a stock check at the SCCS centre.
