Breakfast for Future Leaders

The COVID-19 pandemic that made everyone hit the “pause” button has also caused the postponement of key national examinations such as the Malaysian Certification of Examination (SPM) which was due to take place in late 2020 to late February 2021. Our CSR committee was approached to assist in providing food aid to the needy students whom are sitting for the examination at SMK Bahang, a secondary school located in Sabah.

It has been brought to our attention that these students came from underprivileged families where their family income relies heavily on the informal and tourism-related sectors – both sectors that are heavily affected by the ongoing pandemic. Oftentimes, these students will not have any breakfast at all before starting their day.

Studies have shown that breakfast is the most important meal of the day whereby similar conclusions have been drawn stating that a good breakfast is linked to better memory and concentration.

Thus, in our continuous efforts to be actively involved in the community, with emphasis on the values under the Social pillar in our Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) values, we have provided breakfast to these students throughout the duration of the examination. We hope that the students conquered the examination with flying colours!
